Introduction
After the division of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts, Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad came into existence on 26.08.1982. Apart from this, there are a total of 12 (twelve) Panchayat Samiti under the jurisdiction of the Council. The names of the Panchayat Samiti are 1) Gadchiroli 2) Armori 3) Kurkheda 4) Dhanora 5) Chamorshi 6) Aheri 7) Etapalli 8) Sironcha 9) Bhamragad 10) Mulchera 11) Korchi and 12) Desaiganj.
There are a total of 467 Gram Panchayats under the jurisdiction of the Zilla Parishad, out of which 96 are independent Gram Panchayats and 371 are group Gram Panchayats. The total number of villages in the district is 1,680. Out of the total population, 3,71,696 are Scheduled Tribes and 1,08,824 are Scheduled Castes. The district is bounded on the north by Bhandara district, on the east by Rajnandgaon and Bastar districts of Chhattisgarh state, on the south by Karimnagar and Adilabad districts of Andhra Pradesh and on the west by Chandrapur district. The main river of this district is Wainganga which flows from the west of the district and forms the boundary of the district.
Seven languages are spoken in the district namely Gondi, Madiya, Marathi, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Chhattisgarhi.
This district has large reserves of iron, limestone, and abrac. In terms of communication, the district is backward in terms of industry.

Armori is the center of Kosa industry. There is a historical fort at Vairagad. There is the Hemandpanthi temple of Bhandareshwar and Gorjai.

Being the only railway station in the district, it has become a center of trade. There is also a bull breeding center here. There is also a paper factory here.

There is a big cattle market at Kurkheda. Khobramendha in this taluka is a scenic area and there is a magnificent statue of Hanuman here.

There is a very ancient Markandeshwar temple at Markandadev in Chamorshi taluka. The northern channel of the Wainganga river is here and a big pilgrimage is held here. In the same taluka, Chaparala is on the banks of the Pranhita river and is also called Prashant Dham. A big pilgrimage is held here. The sanctuary here is famous. There is a paper factory at Ashti.

The forest in the Alapalli area of Aheri taluka is worth seeing. The teak wood here is of good quality. The forest department’s wood cutting factory is here.

Solar-powered lamps are used in the Etapalli area. A pillar has been erected here for solar energy.

There is a community center and ashram for tribals at Hemalakasa in Bhamragad taluka. The animal sanctuary in the ashram is worth seeing. It is also the confluence of the Parlakota, Pamulgautam and Indravati rivers.
The Zilla Parishad is the backbone of rural development. In this district, development bids have been made for every small village and the information of the schemes of the Central and State Governments is conveyed to the rural areas through various media and the schemes are implemented intensively, which leads to the development of the district.
The area of this district is 15,433.38 sq. km., out of which 13,708 sq. km. is under forest. It flows in the Wainganga valley on the north-south border of the district. There are 1613 former Zilla Parishad Malgujari lakes and 17 small irrigation lakes, a total of 1630 lakes and 7888 irrigation wells in the district. Due to the high average rainfall, rice is mainly grown. The main occupation of the people is agriculture, including fishing, tendu and gum collection.
