Gadchiroli district was formed on 26 August 1982 by dividing Chandrapur district. The entire Gadchiroli district was earlier included in Chandrapur district and mainly Gadchiroli and Sironcha were functioning as tehsils in Chandrapur district. The total area of Gadchiroli district is 14412 sq. km.
